WOMEN’S COMMUNITY GROUPS
ASOCIACIÓN AMAZILIA DEL CARIBE
The women’s association Amazilia del Caribe is an organized community group from Pueblo Nuevo de Guácimo, a small community on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. These farmers` wives joined in order to implement projects as sources of income for their homes. After trying different ideas, they started working with organic chocolate in 2004. One year later, Tirimbina and the Asociación de Mujeres Amazilia del Caribe cooperatively started the TRC chocolate tour. Now the tour is one of the most popular activities at Tirimbina, and their chocolate bars are one of the best-selling items in the store.
See ECOTOURISM ACTIVITIES for more information on this tour.
ASOCIACIÓN DE MUJERES DE SAN MIGUEL
This group of women makes handcrafts from rainforest materials and recycled products, many of which are sold in the TRC gift shop. Their goal of using environmentally sustainable materials from the rainforest in their crafts also helps them gain economic stability. This association also offers craft-making lessons to student groups.
See ECO-EDUCATION PROGRAMS, OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES for more information.
ASOCIACIÓN DE MUJERES DE RÍO CUARTO
This women’s association manages a community project which seeks sustainable management of the rainforest. Along with the help of volunteers and visiting groups, the women manage a visitor center, butterfly garden, and craft workshops for many TRC visitors.
